One person is suffering from burns and smokie inhalation after a house fire in Meadow Green.

The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 10:40 pm on November 19, 2020 reporting a house fire on the 300 block Avenue Y South. Dispatched to the scene were three engines, a ladder, a rescue, a fire investigator, and battalion chief.

The first apparatus arrived on scene under three minutes observing smoke coming from a 4-plex. Crews were directed to enter a lower suite with a hand line to search for occupants and the source of fire.

It was confirmed the two occupants of the house had evacuated prior to arrival. One occupant was treated by firefighter/paramedics for burns and smoke inhalation, and was transported by ambulance to hospital.

The fire was brought under control fourteen minutes after arrival. The fire investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. Investigators say the smoke alarms had been removed which caused a delay in evacuating the home and would have contributed to fire related injuries.

It is estimated the fire caused $50,000.00 damage.
