Saskatoon Remains Under Extreme Cold Warning

UPDATE: The extreme cold warning for Saskatoon has now ended.

Environment Canada has an extreme cold warning in place for the city of Saskatoon, until 3:59 p.m. today (Tuesday). Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to high -30s all day, with the wind chill. The absolute temperature is forecast to reach a high of -23 Celsius, but not until around 4:00 p.m. today, and only briefly before plummeting again overnight.

Environment Canada says extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

"Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside."

Saskatoon is expected to return to more seasonable temperatures, starting Wednesday.
