Fatal House Fire

One person is dead after a house fire last night. Just after 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening, Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a 911 call of a house fire in the 200 block of Ave. N South.


The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 8:06 pm reporting flames coming from a house. Three engines, one rescue truck, one ladder one ladder truck, a battalion chief and a fire investigator were dispatched.


First arriving firefighters observed flames on the main floor and smoke pouring from the second floor. Crews were assigned to make entry to search the house for occupants and attack the fire. Upon initial entry crews discovered an unconscious person and immediately removed the person from the building. It was determined immediately upon removal the occupant was deceased.


Fire crews remain on scene working to extinguish hot spots. A fire investigator is in the early stages of determining the cause of the fire. Fire and Arson investigators from both the Saskatoon Fire Department and the Saskatoon Police Service, along with investigators from the SPS Major Crime Section and the Forensic Identification Section are working on the investigation. At this point there is no confirmation of identity, gender or age of the victim.
